Minimal-ish Capsule Wardrobe for the Soft Classic
Hi everyone, welcome back! I’m excited to bring you another installment of my Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe for the Kibbe Type Series. Today, we’re focusing on the Soft Classic.
Before we dive in, please note that the example garments below are non-exhaustive. I plan to explore professional attire and seasonal variations in future posts. Additionally, while these examples lean towards a conventionally feminine aesthetic with florals, eyelets, and delicate details, you can adapt them to suit your personal preferences. The essence of Soft Classic style is about harmonious balance, so feel free to make it your own.
Softly Flared Sleeve Blouse
The first wardrobe staple is a blouse with softly flared sleeves and a rounded neckline. The neckline shouldn’t be too high, as we want it to layer well under outerwear, but it should still retain a soft, rounded shape. This blouse captures the essence of the Soft Classic style, which is all about restrained curves and balanced details. The slight flare at the sleeve end adds just the right amount of movement without overwhelming the look.
Precise Puff Sleeve Top
Next, consider a puff sleeve top. This can be a full-length blouse, a bodysuit for tucking in, or even a peplum-waist design. If you prefer cropped tops, pair them with high-waisted bottoms for a polished appearance. The key is to focus on subtle puffed details that enhance the structured, refined aesthetic of the Soft Classic.
Ascot or Tie-Neck Blouse
An ascot or tie-neck blouse is a timeless addition to the Soft Classic wardrobe. Opt for a style with a small, dainty tie for understated elegance or a larger bow for more dramatic flair. These blouses are excellent for emphasizing symmetry while adding a touch of sophistication to any outfit.
A-Line Skirt
An A-line skirt is a quintessential choice for Soft Classics. For shorter versions, stick to a crisp and structured shape. Longer versions can be slightly more relaxed while still maintaining a clean silhouette.
High-Waisted Pants
High-waisted, straight-leg or slightly flared pants in solid colors or washes work beautifully for Soft Classics. Avoid distressing, fading, or overly rugged details, as they can clash with the smooth, refined lines typical of this style.
Shirt Dress
A belted shirt dress is a versatile and elegant option. Choose designs with clean, precise sleeve options to maintain the balanced aesthetic.
Flutter Sleeve Dress
Flutter sleeve dresses with symmetrical patterns, delicate embroidery, or dainty details are another excellent choice. Look for pieces that are elegant but not overly intricate, ensuring they align with the harmonious simplicity of Soft Classic styling.
Soft Trench Coat
A soft trench coat with a clear, defined belt is a perfect layering piece. Look for options in lush materials like velvet, cashmere, wool, or supple leather to enhance the luxurious feel. Avoid overly crisp fabrics like waxed cotton for a softer overall look.
Peacoat
A peacoat with a rounded collar is another must-have. Single- or double-breasted designs both work well, and a slightly shorter length compared to the trench coat adds variety to your wardrobe. Some peacoats can even double as dresses when buttoned up, offering great versatility.
