Kibbe Body Type: DRAMATIC: Keira Knightley
Let’s take a closer look at Keira Knightley, the lovely actress that has graced so many dramatic period pieces and one of our favorite female pirates. I absolutely adored her in Atonement, London Boulevard, The Imitation Game, and of course, Pride and Prejudice.
Keira has a distinct beauty that lends extra flair to all of her characters- her features seem to transmit expression with intense and precise strokes. A great deal of this effortless drama may be credited to her dramatic style ID.
Bold brows and intent stare aside, let’s take a look at her features.
Keira’s face is rich in angles- from her remarkably chiseled cheekbones, straight and noble nose, to her strong jawline. Her lips, though more full, take on a straight line at rest and her cheeks are permanently taut and hollowed. These features all intertwine to give Keira’s face an allure of strength and directness. Nothing is very coy or shy about her visage.
As we move onto Keira’s body structure, we can see she has a very lithe, lean skeleton and flesh to match. She looks a bit taller than her reported 5’7″. Her combination of taut musculature and narrow, vertically expansive build lends her a sharp sleekness. She looks absolutely ravishing in these angular, sharp lines below. High contrast contours, dramatic angles, and fabrics that hold their edge- these serve as the tinder that really sets off the flame of her specific beauty.
Taking a look at her more casual looks, Keira embraces her dramatic figure when she wears crisp, tailored outfits that honor her narrow T-shape. Though she breaks up her vertical line with color blocking, she still maintains vertical cohesion by choosing top and bottom fabrics that are close in weight and possess color harmony, all while emphasizing the shoulders with a clean horizontal line or with the contrast of a plunging v-neckline.
Keira looks very fresh and relaxed while still maintaining her sleekness- she looks crisp and elegant. Dramatics do better without much frilly detail- though they look great in bold, angular, geometric prints, their regal air is more clearly communicated with a more minimalist touch.
For more dramatic looks, I find her head-to-toe beige suede look from her Chanel perfume commercial to be quite memorable. The crisp turtleneck, emphasized shoulders, and vertical expanse of beautiful cream color expresses a softened dramatic edge.
In the red dress, the vertical drapes in heavier satin further emphasize her length. She maintains structure and sharpness by wearing heavier and cleaner cut expanses of “flowing” fabric.
