Guide to the Light Summer Seasonal Color Palette

The Light Summer Seasonal Color Palette

In the 12 Seasonal Color System, Light Summer is a season dominated by lightness, coolness, and a bit of softness. (Light and Cool). Light Summer falls between Light Spring (Light and Warm) and True Summer (Cool and Soft). The palette focuses on colors with relatively moderate chroma (in between very muted and very bright), a range of lighter values, with an emphasis on the cooler hues (blues, purple, cool red and pinks).

Overall, the palette is whimsical, delicate, aquatic, and fresh. The colors bring to mind white sand and crystal clear waters, pink sea shells, sea glass, pastel sunrises, and the shimmer of a mermaid’s tale.

Light Summer Skin Tones and Hair Colors

Light Summer natives possess neutral to neutral cool skin with undertones of rose and beige. Their hair is tinged with a grey or ash tone, which gives them a slight silvery glow rather than a golden radiance. Overall, Light Summer contrast is low and the most prominent aspect to their overall coloring is the lightness and coolness of their overall coloring.

Compared to Light Spring, Light Summer is cooler and a bit softer as Summer is an overall soft season. Compared to True Summers, Light Summers are slightly warmer and lighter with generally less contrast to their features.

Light Summer Celebrities

Possible Light Summer celebrities include January Jones, Margot Robbie, Michelle Pfeiffer, Diandra Forrest, Doutzen Kroes, Jodie Foster, Dahyun, and Christina Aguilera. Note that these are just possibilities; confirmation requires a more formal draping process. Please note that changes in hair color, brow color, and lighting can have a profound effect on color harmony and perception.

Light Summer Neutrals and Colors to Avoid

Light Summer neutrals are delicate- think dove white, soft creams, almonds, and soft taupes. Deeper neutrals include a more limited range of moderately dark taupes. Light Summers can enjoy a wide variety of blues to use as neutrals (such as jeans, chambray shirts or dresses, or trousers and outerwear). Neutral to cool blues in light to mostly moderate values can really make their accent colors pop.

Light Summers can preserve their luminous and effervescent glow by avoiding colors that are dark and rich or overly warm and bright.

Light Summer Metals, Stones, and Materials

Light Summers look best in semi-polished soft white golds, yellow golds, rose golds, and gentle silvers. A slight bit of texture (light hammering) can work as long as the metal stays free from darker discoloration. Extremely shiny metals can look a bit icy against their delicate coloring.

Matte to semi-polished gemstones like white jade, purple jade, opal, sea glass, and calcite can match the colors of their palette almost exactly. Overly raw gemstones can look a bit dull or heavy next to their delicacy, and overly prismatic and polished gemstones can look a bit severe and high contrast.

When considering materials, Light Summers can lean into their ethereal beauty with lightweight tulles, pleated organzas, soft mohairs, and delicate silks and satins.

Natural and Dramatic Makeup Looks for Light Summers

Light Summers look the most natural when they preserve their gentle contrast and lightness. Due to their inherent Summer softness and lightness, a slightly matte to powdery finish looks very elegant on them. Shimmer or highlighter is best used with a restrained hand- a bit on the cheeks, nose, and lips gives dimension without looking too wet. Eyes and brows are softly defined with powdery to slightly shimmery eyeshadow, and lips look best with a slightly blurred or sheer finish.

For a more dramatic makeup look, Light Summers look beautiful in a soft and restrained smoky eye so long as the colors are not overly dark and heavy. The rest of the face is best kept subtle, though the brows can be slightly darkened to enhance the look.
