Exploring the Link Between Cognitive Type and Style: Te Leads of TeSi (ESTJ) and TeNi (ENTJ)
MBTI, Cognitive Type, and Style
Sorry, had to throw the MBTI keyword there for searchability.
I try to orient this exploration more towards socionics and cognitive functions as opposed to the MBTI 16 personalities if at least to free myself from the very knotted web of assocations within the MBTI community. I specify this further by only using typing from vultology.com because I adore cognitive typing and Juan Sandoval’s work (the creator of vultology.com).
Honestly, don’t use this as a diagnostic tool and certainly don’t try to learn any fundamentals from this because I will lead you astray. I am a mere observer grasping at patterns as they pertain to my main focus of style. That’s very fun for me so lo and behold, the new series. Let’s begin.
TeSi: (ESTJ) Te-Si-Ne-Fi
ESTJ Chloe Sevigny Style:
Chloe looks very much herself in these ensembles that balance polite structure with animation and a touch of sentimental warmth (the outfits seem to reinforce her persona and presence as opposed to competing with her…in other words, I choose these outfits because they magnify the subject rather than using the subject as a mannequin).
Traditional or classic items (pleated skirt, loafers, knee high socks, pinafore, matching turtleneck and trousers) convey a sense of appropriateness, competency, and awareness. I ascribe this to the Te lead. The Si slot may influence with a need for sentimental detail or inspiration from childhood or some connection the bygone eras (vintage much?). Maybe the Ne child function (3rd slot) adds that inner child animation and playfulness. Fi might be whispering in their ear questions of whether the outfit speaks to the right crowd.
What you get is a clean and high energy style that never loses its politeness or competence. Far from cold or stark, but not ooey-gooey sentimental. Personal comfort doesn’t seem to be the highest priority.
ESTJ Saiorse Ronan Style:
Saiorse has got the same kind of vibe going on. A mix of polite and animated structure, accuracy, and playfulness. Nothing too harsh or minimalist. Nothing flowy and bohemian. Nothing conventionally sexy or seductive. The look inspires creativity AND practicality. Elevation and refinement but with lots of room to play. There is a sense of joy here.
ESTJ Emerald Fennel Style:
Even with the large range of looks above- from black on black and combat boots to sort of twee, Zooey Deschanel naughties kindergarten teacher, there is a sense of playfulness and competence. Decisive and then expressive. Structure and then supporting details.
Te Ni Se Fi ENTJ:
ENTJ Kate Winslet Style:
Much different from the ESTJ style, the ENTJ emphasizes pragmatism, mobility, and efficiency. There is this sense of always being on the go, ready to work, and comfortable enough to adapt. The clothing acts both as a business armor and a safety blanket. Simple but defined pants, practical footwear, a sleek blouse or shirt and slightly structured outerwear. The scarf adds that extra comfort.
The look is competence and comfortable. I imagine the Ni-Se emphasizes this need for mobility and flexibility and groundedness in the outer world.
ENTJ Amy Poehler:
The same patterns are at play here. Practical, competent, efficient, and durable. The professional structure is rugged enough to let them get their hands dirty.
ENTJ Katherine Heigl:
A bit more sensual and dressy than the other two examples, but the theme still remains. Katherine looks great in these business-transit friendly outfits.
ESTJ and ENTJ Example Outfits:
Here are some example outfits based on the themes explored above.
I give the ESTJ an accurate but not severe ensemble with some playfulness and a vintage touch.
The ENTJ gets chic riding boots, a sleek elongated shirt, a mandarin collar cardigan coat, and the scarf for an extra dose of comfort.
