12 Seasonal Color System for Men: True/Cool Winter

Hi everyone, welcome back. Today marks the last video in my series where I go over all 12 seasonal color palettes for men. We have finally arrived at the True Winter palette.

What is True Winter?

To give you some context, True Winter sits in the middle of the Winter season. It is the coolest of all the seasons, balancing the darkness from Deep Winter with the brightness of Bright Winter. The result is an overall cool, crystalline, dark, and clear contrasting kind of beauty.

Please remember that color should always be assessed on a personal level. There are high variations in color preferences and undertones within a single sub-season.

Characteristics of a True Winter Man

The strongest characteristic of True Winter is its coolness. You’ll see undertones of rose, rose beige, pinkish blue, and very cool hair tones. Contrast is also high, with dark values being very dark and bright hues being very high chroma.

True Winter Color Palette

Here is a generic True Winter color palette. Again, True Winter color needs to be assessed individually, but if you are a True Winter, these colors should work well for you. They are cool, bright, and contrasted, with that lovely play of light and dark.

Examples of True Winter Men

Ian Somerhalder

First, we have Ian Somerhalder. He looks incredibly striking in cool winter colors. The high contrast highlights his bone structure, making his features look more defined. His skin tone looks smooth and radiant in these colors. However, when he wears more muted tones, he seems to disappear. He doesn’t look as sculpted, defined, or striking, and his complexion appears less even.

George Clooney

Next, we have George Clooney. While George might not immediately seem like a True Winter, it’s important to remember that figuring out your color palette takes experimentation. You can’t just isolate your color qualities without testing different shades. George has a smokey quality to his look, which might make you think he’s more aligned with the deep seasons. However, when he wears high-chroma contrasting colors, his beauty pops. This is especially noticeable in older photos where his darker hair and brows really stand out against those bright winter tones. On the other hand, the distressed denim and off-white don’t enhance his features—they make him look less striking and diluted.

Daniel Dae Kim

Daniel Dae Kim looks sharp and striking in contrasting winter colors. A good tip for winter men is to wear black and white or dark colors with lighter cool tones to really emphasize contrast. This combination works beautifully for him. However, when he wears beige or muted tones, they blend too much with his skin tone. This doesn’t support his high contrast, making him look less striking. Additionally, when he wears warm springtime colors, they seem to separate from his natural coloring, and his skin tone looks uneven.

Rick Fox

Lastly, we have Rick Fox, who looks incredibly striking in winter tones. His features and skin tone are enhanced by these colors, making him look smooth and sculpted. However, when he wears faded olive or muted blue-gray and white stripes, his natural striking look is diminished. These colors don’t support the level of definition his face naturally has.
