12 Seasonal Color System for Men: Bright/Clear Winter

Welcome back! I have another video for you in my series where we go through all 12 seasonal color palettes for men. Today, we are looking at the Bright (or Clear) Winter palette.

What is Bright Winter?

To give you some context, Bright Winter sits between True Winter and Bright Spring. Like True Winter, it shares a sense of coolness and brightness, but with different priorities. Bright Winter is bright, then cool, whereas True Winter is cool, then bright.

It’s important to note that “bright” and “clear” can be used interchangeably in the 12-seasonal color system. They just mean high chroma, with a higher sense of contrast. On the other side, there’s Bright Spring. While Bright Winter and Bright Spring share that brightness, Bright Spring is warmer; it’s a warm season, whereas Winter is cool. And being the most contrasted season, Bright Winter is also a little bit more striking and contrasted than Bright Spring.

Characteristics of a Bright Winter Man

When it comes to Bright Winter, the most noticeable characteristic is the high chroma brightness. They have a very crystalline, clear kind of beauty; it’s striking and very defined.

Second, Bright Winters lean cool. They have cooler undertones: cool beige, cool cocoa, or pinkish blue, but some may lean a little more neutral, especially depending on whether they have a tan or not.

Bright Winter Color Palette

Here is a generic Bright Winter color palette. The idea of Bright Winter is that colors need to be assessed on a personal level, but these sets of colors do satisfy the brightness and coolness characteristic of this season.

Examples of Bright Winter Men

Idris Elba

First, we have Idris Elba. He looks sharp, focused, and striking in the Bright Winter colors. The bright colors smooth his complexion, highlight his features, and make him look more defined. In the muted colors, however, he gets a little bit lost; he looks drained and less striking.

Henry Cavill

Next, we have Henry Cavill. He looks refined and elevated in the Bright Winter colors that bring out his clarity and definition. However, in the off-white color, his skin tone looks a little gray. And the muddled brown is too dark, making him look very separate, with nothing being enhanced by this color.

Henry Golding

Moving on to Henry Golding. He looks radiant, sculpted, and defined in the bright, cooler, contrasting tones. However, whoever gave him this warm olive jacket…why? It’s just so overwhelming on him and has nothing in common with his natural coloring. The gray also drains the life from his lovely face.

Wes Bentley

Lastly, we have Wes Bentley. He looks striking and sculpted in these bright, cooler colors that bring out the depth and evenness of his skin and hair. On the other hand, the very smoky greens and grays are just too dark, and they don’t speak to that crystalline brightness. The beige tone dampens his sense of contrast.
